Diamonds FAQs

What are the different diamond types?

• Lab-grown diamonds: Created in controlled environments with identical chemical, physical, and optical properties as natural diamonds.
• Natural diamonds: Formed over millions of years in the Earth, each one is unique.

Lab-grown diamonds

What are the 7 C’s?

The 7 C’s help you evaluate both natural and lab-grown diamonds: Cut, Colour, Clarity, Carat, Certification, Conscience, and Cost. Cut, Colour, Clarity, and Carat are the traditional gemological qualities. Certification ensures authenticity, Conscience reflects ethical sourcing and sustainability, and Cost helps you balance quality with value.

Diamonds come in a variety of shapes, including round brilliant, oval, pear, emerald, cushion, marquise, and princess. Each shape has unique light reflection and visual appeal. Your choice depends on style, setting, and personal preference.

Lab-grown diamonds are created using either:
• High-Pressure High-Temperature (HPHT): A diamond seed is subjected to extreme
heat and pressure to mimic natural diamond formation.
• Chemical Vapour Deposition (CVD): Carbon atoms are deposited layer by layer
onto a diamond seed in a controlled chamber to grow a crystal.

Both HPHT and CVD diamonds are chemically and physically identical to natural
diamonds. CVD often offers cleaner crystals with fewer inclusions, while HPHT can
produce larger stones efficiently. At Annabels, we guide you to the stone that balances
quality, size, and price.

Certification of diamonds
All our diamonds, natural or lab-grown, come with certification from trusted
gemological labs like GIA or IGI. Certification ensures authenticity, grading, and
traceability.

Even diamonds of the same carat can differ in cut, clarity, and colour. Lab-grown diamonds may also show minor variations depending on growth method. For natural diamonds, inclusions and colour zoning contribute to uniqueness.

Lab-grown diamonds typically have a smaller environmental footprint compared to mined stones. We also carefully source our natural diamonds from responsible mines that follow strict environmental practices.

Yes. All Annabel Fine Jewllery diamonds, natural or lab-grown, are conflict-free and responsibly sourced. Lab diamonds are fully traceable; natural diamonds come from suppliers adhering to ethical mining standards.

• Certification: Always request verified grading.
• Quality: Consider cut, colour, clarity, and carat weight.
• Ethics: Ensure the diamond is responsibly sourced.
• Budget: Lab-grown diamonds may offer higher quality at a lower cost, while
natural diamonds are valued for rarity and provenance.

Natural Diamond FAQs

Where do your natural diamonds come from?

Our natural diamonds are sourced from a select network of trusted suppliers who
operate in countries with strong ethical and environmental standards. We work only
with partners who adhere to the Kimberley Process and additional independent
auditing, ensuring every diamond is conflict-free, responsibly mined, and fully
traceable through the supply chain.

At Annabels, ethics are non-negotiable. We vet every supplier for:
• Fair labour standards
• Safe working conditions
• Environmentally responsible mining practices
• Transparent supply chains
• Full compliance with global ethical certification schemes
Every natural diamond we offer has been selected for both its beauty and its
responsible origin.

Inclusions are tiny, naturally formed internal marks the fingerprints of a diamond’s geological journey. They are normal and often microscopic. They can affect value depending on their size and visibility, but many inclusions have no impact on beauty to the naked eye. Our experts carefully assess each natural diamond to ensure inclusions never compromise brilliance or durability.

Natural diamonds are formed over millions of years and their rarity contributes to long- term value. While no diamond should be purchased solely as an investment, natural stones typically retain value better than lab-grown diamonds due to their limited supply and inherent uniqueness. If investment potential matters to you, our specialist team can guide you toward stones with desirable specifications and strong market desirability.

Visually, natural and lab-grown diamonds are almost indistinguishable, as both have the same chemical and physical structure. However, natural diamonds often display tiny variations subtle inclusions, growth patterns, or colour undertones that reflect their natural formation. These characteristics give each natural stone its one-of-a-kind character and story.

Some natural diamonds emit a soft glow under UV light, known as fluorescence. This is a natural characteristic caused by trace minerals in the diamond’s formation. Fluorescence can be None, Faint, Medium or Strong. It often has little to no effect on appearance in everyday lighting. In some cases, fluorescence can even make near-colourless diamonds appear brighter.

Fluorescence is not a defect. In most cases, it has minimal impact on price or beauty. Strong fluorescence may slightly reduce price due to market preference, but many clients actually love the unique glow and value advantage it offers.

Caring for natural diamonds is simple:
• Clean regularly with warm water, mild soap, and a soft brush
• Avoid harsh chemicals
• Have your jewellery professionally checked once a year to ensure the setting
remains secure
• Store separately to avoid scratching softer gemstones

We offer complimentary cleaning advice and maintenance guidance to keep your
diamond sparkling for generations.

Both can be ethical choices when sourced responsibly.
• Natural diamonds: We source only from environmentally responsible mines with
strict labour, safety, and sustainability standards.
• Lab-grown diamonds: Created with far less land impact and full traceability.
At Annabels Fine Jewellery, we help you choose the option that aligns with your values
without compromising beauty or quality.
